The 2013 Bozeman Tritons Triathlon will again offer both sprint and long course (half Iron) distance races. So whether you like to go short and fast, are just diving into triathlons, or want to take on a bigger challenge, the Bozeman Tritons Triathlon has something for you. The long course race is the only half Iron distance triathlon in Montana! Both races are USAT sanctioned, so you can count on a high level of safety and professionalism. Registration is open and will be limited to the first 250 racers.

Event Start Location
East Gallatin Recreation Area (a.k.a. Glen Lake Park) in Bozeman, Montana

Course Description
Sprint

The Sprint race is one lap around the pond (750 meters), and then off to the 20 km bike course. The bike is an out and back, featuring gentle up and down grades, with one solid climb. There will be no aid stations on the ride, but volunteers will be there for you if necessary. This year the 5 km run will be an out and back on paved surfaces, finishing with a lap around the lake on dirt trails. There will be three aid stations along the run.

Long Course

The Long Course race is truly “Made in Montana!” And we utilize the natural terrain outside of Bozeman to create a memorable course. The 1.2 mile swim features three laps around the pond with a beach run transition between each lap. Racers love mixing things up a bit and the crowd really gets into the excitement of seeing the racers each lap. The bike ride is a 56 mile out and back following Bridger Canyon Drive as it traverses the eastern side of the Bridger Mountains over Battle Ridge Pass. Spectacular mountain views will take some of the pain out of the climbs. The ride features long, steady up and down grades, punctuated by a few solid climbs. If you have a larger cluster, you may want to bring it! We will have five aid stations along the bike course. The run is a lollipop loop in the Bridger foothills. Mostly level terrain and then a few solid climbs, followed by a long downhill and flats will turn you into a true Montanan! We support the run with aid stations every 1 to 2 miles, so you will never be far from a cool towel, water, and nutrition. The run is about 80% on paved surfaces. Check out the race videos to get a feel for the race! We had several folks comment that it is the perfect warm-up race for Ironman Canada, so come and put some polish on your training!

Packet Pickup / Expo
Packet pick-up is 3-6 p.m. on Saturday, June 22 at the East Gallatin Recreation Area. There is no race-day packet pick-up for the long course race. Race-day packet pick-up for sprint race participants is available from 7-8 a.m.

Event sanctioning and insurance compliance require every participant of a USA Triathlon sanctioned event to and to present a photo ID and either be a member of USA Triathlon or purchase a 1-day race license. If you are not a USA Triathlon member, then you would have purchased the 1-day license when you registered for the triathlon. We will have a listing at packet pickup. If you forget your proof of current USAT membership, you can purchase a 1-day license at packet pickup.

NO PHOTO ID, NO RACE, NO EXCEPTIONS.

Timing / Results
We’ve gone to a new registration system this year that is run by ChronoTrack. This means it integrates with our timer’s system, giving us some very cool features. Real-time updates (or at least when you cross a timing mat) via text or posted to your Facebook account. Easy racer management, bib numbers, chips, race changes, etc. All very cool stuff that we are excited to try out. Results posted at http://www.bozemantritons.org/tritonstri/results/.

Weather
We have moved the 2013 race up by a month to help avoid conflicts with other races and the mid-summer heat! Based on the weather almanac, the average mean temperature for this date is 64 degrees (F), the average low temperature for this date is 47 degrees (F) and the average high temperature for this date is 80 degrees (F). This date averages 0.07 inches of rain.

Directions
From I-90, take the 7th Ave exit and turn north for approximately 200 meters. Turn right onto Griffin Drive. Go approximately ¼ mile and turn left onto Manley Road. The entrance to the East Gallatin Recreation Area is on the north side of the lake.

Parking
Parking is available in the East Gallatin Recreation Area. We have a lot of participants so parking efficiently is important. If available parking inside the park is full, please park along the roads of the office development immediately west of the park. Be considerate of the businesses and do not use or block their lots. Do not park on Manley Rd.

How to Avoid The Porta Potty During a Race

We've all seen it and most of us have done it ... 30 minutes (or less) into a race athletes are already looking for a port potty. The good news is that it doesn't have to be that way. The secret is a proper hydration plan before the gun goes off, and here's how you do it.

Still using GU, PowerGel or Clif SHOT?
See why athletes are making the switch to e-Gel, the only Electrolyte Energy Gel. Get 230 mg Sodium, 85 mg Potassium and more complex carbs than any other gel.
