Raise the Funds. Run the Race. Change a Life.

The Rhythm and Blues Half Marathon and 5K will have its inaugural run starting in downtown Houston on February 19, 2012.

Started by Houston running and fitness enthusiasts, we invite you to join us, thousands of runners and spectators, and hundreds of volunteers in supporting Free Shoes for Houston and other local charities with the proceeds of this wonderful event.

Our mission is to use “new shoes” as an incentive to educate the youth to maintain a healthy lifestyle. This event is about raising the awareness of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, having fun, and inspiring the population to get moving and get fit.

The Rhythm and Blues Half Marathon and 5K will be exciting all alone the entire route. Multiple carefully selected Rhythm and Blues Bands from throughout Texas will be strategically positioned to provide an electrifying, festive environment every step of the way.

Incentives will exist for spectators to line the course and cheer on the runners. Runners are encouraged to dress up like their favorite Rhythm and Blues character to win the contest sponsored by various sponsors.

Participants will be treated to a Rockin’ Good Time at the Post Race festivities with a featured headline act entertaining them while a celebrity announces the race winners and the GRAND PRIZE winner.

The event is presented by Finish Strong Sports. Come join us February 19 as Houston commences on its quest to inspire the city to get moving and set the standard for moving to the beat in the streets.

To Be Announced
Race as a X-Country Style Half Marathon Team

This is not a relay race. Each team will have four members run the entire distance that the team is signed up for. Scoring will be based upon the average time of all four members of the team. All four runners’ times will be counted into the average team time.
Team Categories & Awards

Team categories: Any mixed team require at least two women
Open-men, women, mixed
Student (under 18) boys, girls, mixed
Masters – Men, women, mixed
Senior (50+) Men, women, mixed
Awards will be given to the top three teams in each category
Please note: Competing on a team will not pull you away from your regular half marathon awards. You will still be able to win overall or age division awards if your individual performance earns that. You can still qualify for other events time requirements (like New York Marathon while running on a half marathon team)

The lowest score wins. The four individuals with the lowest age group score for each team will be added to determine the winners in each category. The formula is a place within age group/number of people in age group x 1,000 = individual score.
