Showcasing a unique city-to-city trail connection, the Long View Marathon and Half Marathon runs from Fort Collins to Loveland. Together, Gnar Runners and Sweetheart City Racing bring a unique collaboration to Colorado’s running scene in this one-of-a-kind race event.

Event Start Location
City Park, 1500 W. Mulberry St, Fort Collins, CO 80521

Course Description
The marathon course begins at historic City Park in Fort Collins, following a diagonal route through the heart of the park along Bryan and City Park Drives.

Take a quick left onto Jackson Ave, followed by a left onto Mountain Ave, heading west toward Grandview Cemetery (1 MI). A right onto Grandview Ave along the cemetery’s edge and a quick left onto Laporte Ave finishes the set of starting turns.

A straight shot west along the gradually inclining Laporte Ave (2 MI) takes you to the western edge of Fort Collins and Overland Trail Road. Turn south on Overland Trail and follow its western shoulder (3, 4, 5 MI) to Cottonwood Glen Park where the course picks up the Spring Creek Bike Path to tour both Cottonwood Glen and Spring Canyon Parks (6, 7 MI).

Exiting Spring Canyon, the course picks up the Fossil Creek Bike Path and heads in a southeasterly direction under CR38e and through the wide open expanses of Cathy Fromme Prairie (8, 9, 10 MI). Not only will you enjoy Long Views of the mighty Front Range Peaks through this section, but also a gradual 8 mile, 300 foot descent.

After passing through the Shields St. underpass, you’ll shortly be on the race’s namesake Long View Bike Path, heading south at street level before continuing east on the Fossil Creek Bike Path through the new Redtail Grove Natural Area, under College Avenue, and paralleling Fossil Creek Parkway as you approach Fossil Creek Park (11, 12 MI).

The route traces the park perimeter (13 MI), winding by softball fields, historic sculptures and fountains before exiting at the SE corner Lemay underpass (14 MI). The route will head south for just under a mile on the east lane of northbound Lemay Ave before connecting with the Front Range Bike Path paralleling Trilby Ave to the underpass that turns south under Trilby towards Carpenter Road. An eastern turn alongside Carpenter (16 MI) for a third of a mile then connects to the Front Range Bike Path’s second section, again heading south towards County Road 30 (17 MI).

Turn east on County Road 30 and stay on the coned shoulder for just over a mile as the road traces the shore of Donath Lake (18 MI), then turns south on Lemay Ave to connect to the City of Loveland’s Recreational Path heading east into Boyd Lake State Park (19 MI).

Turn south and follow the Loveland Recreational Path, enjoying the beautiful fall colors as the course meanders along the shores of Boyd Lake and through the park campgrounds (20, 21, 22, 23, 24 MI). The trail exits the park continuing south through the Allendale Park neighborhood to the Eisenhower Boulevard (Hwy 34) underpass heading for the finish in the heart of downtown Loveland.

Your final two miles will follow the Loveland-Greeley Canal through town, crossing Boise Ave (25 MI) at street level and taking the Madison Ave underpass to the Rec Path exit and the homestretch west onto 7th Avenue. Hit the 26 MI mark right at the left turn onto Adams Street, where you’ll see the finish line 3 blocks ahead. Cross 4th Avenue into the Library parking lot and cross the finish before enjoying the post-race party at the Foote Lagoon.

October weather on Colorado’s Front Range can be somewhat unpredictable. Typically, you can expect morning lows in the mid 30s and daytime highs in the 60s. Some years have seen snow, some years have seen temperatures in the 80s. Fort Collins averages 300 days of sunshine a year. Expect blue skies, but come prepared for anything.
