The Forest Park Trail Marathon and Half Marathon is a benefit event for The Forest Park Conservancy, the only nonprofit focused exclusively on protecting and maintaining the natural habitat and trails of Portland's renowned Forest Park. This is a unique opportunity for runners to experience a challenging trail marathon fully within the city limits of Portland, Oregon. The route traverses 26.2 miles of Forest Park's legendary 80+ mile trail system, while the half marathon (13.1 miles) is available for runners not ready to commit to a full, and is open to walkers as well.

Event Start Location
The full marathon begins along lower Saltzman Road and ends at Lower Macleay park; the half marathon begins and ends at Lower Macleay, traversing portions of the Wildwood, Wild Cherry, Leif Erikson and Firelane 1 trails as part of a loop route.

Course Description
The marathon runs deep through the heart of Forest Park, gaining nearly 2,000 of cumulative elevation over 26.2 miles. The course offers a nice sampling of Portland's 5,167 acre natural area, including over 19 continuous miles on the Wildwood Trail. The marathon begins along lower Saltzman Road, climbing moderately before joining Leif Erikson Drive heading N/NW. At the terminus of Leif Erikson at NW Germantown, climb the short Cannon Trail to meet up with the Wildwood Trail heading S/SE (toward Portland). The course then follows the Wildwood Trail all the way to the Stone House before heading down and out the Lower Macleay Trail along Balch Creek.

The half marathon: the challenging half marathon course entails over 1,200 feet of cumulative elevation gain over 13.1 miles. The course begins and ends at Lower Macleay park, traversing portions of the Wildwood, Wild Cherry, Leif Erikson and firelane 1 as part of a loop route.
