Destination Races invites you to experience the beauty of the Santa Ynez Valley in the heart of Santa Barbara Wine Country with the 6th Annual Santa Barbara Wine Country Half Marathon. This enchanting course takes you past vineyards, lavender farms, fruit orchards and horse ranches on your way to the finish down Copenhagen Drive in the Danish village of Solvang. Your journey begins in downtown Santa Ynez. You'll then pass through the quaint town of Los Olivos at the relay transition point of the course before running down scenic Ballard Canyon into Solvang, where wine awaits.Team competition and 2-person relay are also offered. This race is limited to 3,000 runners and sells out immediately.

Course Description
Prepare to take a scenic journey on this 13.1 mile course that winds through the Santa Ynez Valley bordered by the Sierra Madre Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Starting in downtown Santa Ynez, the course passes through the quaint town of Los Olivos before finishing on Copenhagen Drive in the heart of historic Solvang. In between you'll wind through clusters of horse ranches, fruit orchards, lavender farms and vineyards.

The first six miles of the course into Los Olivos and the relay transition area is relatively flat with some rollers. After Los Olivos, you'll hit Corkscrew Hill, a short but steep winding road to the top of Ballard Canyon. Then you'll run almost 5 miles of fast downhill until you reach the Chalk Hill area. You hit a short hill or two here and then the final mile of the course is mostly downhill or flat into the town of Solvang where spectators will cheer you on down Copenhagen Drive to the finish!

We encourage picking up your packet on Friday at the expo. The expo features seminars, guest speakers, sampling, merchandise sales, exhibitor and information booths. Your packet contains your personalized race bib with timing chip, product offers, plus you will receive your running shirt and information about the race and other activities.

Post Race Activities
8:00am to 10:30am — Race Finish on Copenhagen and First St. in Solvang
9:00am to Noon — Wine & Music Festival in Solvang Park
10:30 to 11:00am — Awards Ceremony in Solvang Park,
All Day — Special offers at various tasting rooms, wineries and other area merchants in Solvang, Los Olivos and Santa Ynez on Sat and Sun.
3:00 to 6:00pm — Finishers party at Kalyra Winery


Weather
May temperatures are typically very moderate and pleasant in the Santa Ynez Valley. Start time temperature can range from a cool of 50°F to low 60s. The high temperature in the afternoon will typically range from 68°F to 78°F. There is very little precipitation in May although it is recommended that runners bring adequate clothing for a range of temperatures and conditions. There is exposure to the sun on this course so please wear sunscreen.

Parking
This is a point-to-point course starting in Santa Ynez and finishing in Solvang. The transition area for the 2-person relay is in Los Olivos. Bus transportation to the start and back is provided from two main locations to the start area; Solvang Park and Santa Ynez Valley High School There wil also be a bus leaving from the Marriott hotel in Buellton and the Doubletree Hotel in Santa Barbara.

Parking is not allowed along the race course. We recommend either parking at one of these locations or being dropped off by car in downtown Santa Ynez near the start.

SOLVANG

There are parking public lots and street parking in Solvang There is also a large grass/dirt parking area behind the Corque Hotel (formerly Royal Scandinavian Inn) at 400 Alisal Rd * Parking is NOT available on race day in LOT 2 next to Solvang Park Transportation is provided to the start area from Solvang Park on Mission and First St. which is near the finish area. Buses leave here every 10 minutes from 5:15am to 6:30am. Please arrive as early as possible to avoid delays.
