An out-and-back race that takes runners on a commemorative tour of the site of the famous Teton Dam break, which inundated the nearby town of Rexburg in 1976, the Teton Dam Marathon, Half Marathon and Relay offers views of beautiful scenery, quaint towns and farmland and wide expanses of open spaces.

Runners start the USATF-certified course along 1st Street next to Rexburg’s Smith Park, and from there head out on a clockwise loop route that winds along paved country roads and tree-lined streets in the city.

The race will take runners twice over the Teton River, first between mile markers 2 and 3, and then again a second time around the mile 4 marker. The first five miles or so of the course are very flat and fast, and then between miles 5 and 6, the elevation begins climbing, rising about 300 feet between the lowest and highest points in the race.

Race organizers encourage runners planning on this race to include hill training in their preparations, as the course’s gentle, rolling hills meet runners late in the race. The event usually host a small field of runners, which past participants say adds to its personal, intimate charm.

Course Description
The marathon course begins at the Teton Dam Site in Teton, Idaho at an elevation of 5380'. The first 15 miles are slightly downhill, with an elevation loss of approximately 500 feet. The next 3 miles are uphill to an elevation of 5250'. The remaining miles descend to the finish line at Smith Park in Rexburg, Idaho at an elevation of 4850'. The Course will be marked. Police and volunteers will be stationed at key points to control traffic and assist runners.
