COURSE:The Deadwood - Mickelson Trail Marathon is a point to point course, beginning in the hamlet of Rochford, proceeding 1.1 miles past the Little Brown Church in the Vale; the University of Rochford; the sMall of America, past the Fire Station 2/10 of a mile. At this point, the course makes a U-turn onto the Mickelson Trail. The next 11.6 miles are an uphill grade of no more than 3%, to the highest point on the course… 6200’. From there to mile 19.4 is mostly downhill, again at no more than 3%. From 19.4 to 20, there is a serious downhill... it's runable, but you have to be careful not to become a "runaway." From 20, to the end of the trail at 24.8 miles the course is either downhill or flat. From 24.8 to the finish is on pavement. As you turn on to Main Street at about mile 26, in historic Deadwood you'll feel as though you have stepped back in time! The finish line is now in sight… This is a course you'll never forget!

The Half Marathon is also a point to point course, starting at the 13.1 mile mark of the full marathon, and follows the marathon course described above, finishing at same spot on Main Street.

AID STATIONS: More than in 2004, no more than 3 miles apart, usually closer to 2 miles.

How to Avoid The Porta Potty During a Race

We've all seen it and most of us have done it ... 30 minutes (or less) into a race athletes are already looking for a port potty. The good news is that it doesn't have to be that way. The secret is a proper hydration plan before the gun goes off, and here's how you do it.

Reviews
Average Rating:
Recent Review: 3% and 650 ft doesn't sound like much, but after 14 miles of nothing but up, at altitude, it really, really is! Be prepared for aching quads and beautiful scenery. Because the trail parallels a highway, there are plenty of places for friends and family to watch the fun, so while the spectators are few, they are fervent. If you're into character building, don't miss this one!
