The Opelika Bicycle Advisory Committee brings you its 16th annual Johnny Ray Century benefitting the Davis Phinney Foundation for Parkinson’s Disease. An initiative of the East Alabama Cycling Club, the century travels the quiet but often rough backroads of Lee, Chambers, and Randolph counties, following the famous 19th-century Central of Georgia spur. Riders cross the old railroad bed in Lafayette. The 105-mile century option takes riders into downtown Roanoke where Johnny Ray himself, its famed conductor, is believed buried.
Riders receive excellent support on the routes. Rest Stops feature a variety of foods and fluids. Expect special treats at select stops. Enjoy a continental breakfast including breads from Panera. A catered lunch awaits you!

Event Start Location
Red Clay Brewing Company located at 704 N Railroad Ave

Course Description
The century takes its name from the engineer of a Central of Georgia railroad spur that connected Opelika, Lafayette, and Roanoke to West Point, Georgia, and Atlanta. Inspired by the rail line, the bike ride begins in Opelika then crosses tracks in Gold Hill. The 105 and 63-mile routes proceed north over a wooden trestle bridge and a WWII era steel Bailey bridge. Century riders stop in Roanoke, the burial place of the famed engineer, on their 105 mile round trip. Metric century riders stop in Lafayette and can see the old tracks and trains. Riders doing the 34 and 20-mile loops pass the 1832 Cusseta Fort and other historic landmarks.

Awards
As an Alabama Backroads Century Series event, Johnny Ray officials will distribute specially designed medallions to all century riders. Those completing their 4th century ride will receive patches.
