The Tour de Cure is a series of fundraising cycling events held in 44 states nationwide to benefit the American Diabetes Association. The Tour de Cure is a ride, not a race, with routes designed for everyone from the occasional rider to the experienced cyclist. Whether you ride 10 miles or 100 miles, you will travel a route supported from start to finish with rest stops, food to fuel the journey and fans to cheer you on!
Each Tour de Cure event has its own character and style with unique starting points to gorgeous scenery and more! The DFW Tour de Cure features routes for everyone from a leisurely short distance to a more challenging length. All routes begin inside the Texas Motor Speedway, at the green flag near the race car pit-stop area, and follow an official pace car on and around the track for the first 1.5 miles of each distance – no matter which of the 5, 15, 32 or 62 mile rides you decide! Pedal the lap around the track and go through the speedway’s tunnel to continue your ride throughout the roads of scenic, rural Texas!
All riders will enjoy a safe, fully-supported & well-marked route with Route Marshals, SAG (Support & Gear) vehicles, police assistance, medical & mechanical support, and themed Rest Stops stocked with endless amounts of cold beverages & snacks, restrooms, shade & volunteers prepared to handle any needs that arise during the ride. All of our volunteers are experienced and trained to assist in maintaining fun and safe conditions for all riders.
Pedal back to the track where you’ll be welcomed with cheering volunteers and spectacular celebration at the Finish Line. Enjoy the rest of the day with:
• A tasty “food court” themed lunch for all participants & volunteers!
• Hydration Station with Michelob Ultra & other refreshments to quench your thirst!
• Test drives in Chevrolet's newest cars & trucks!
• Soothing massages!
• Live entertainment!
• A KidZone with a bounce house and other kid-friendly activities!
• Exhibits, demonstrations, goodies and giveaways at the Expo!
• Your favorite team mascots and special guest appearances!
• Top Fundraisers, Top Teams and Red Rider recognition, awards & prizes!
• Team Photos on the Red Rider Red Carpet!
• And MORE!
If you have diabetes, we want YOU to ride with us – YOU are why we ride! You will receive a FREE Red Rider jersey AND a FREE Red Rider t-shirt! What is a Red Rider? A Red Rider is someone living with diabetes (type 1 or type 2) who rides in the Tour de Cure. Why be recognized as a Red Rider? Being a Red Rider means that you are not alone. With hundreds of riders who may share a similar story, and hundreds more to support you, being a Red Rider can help with your first step or your millionth – in your fight to live a healthier life! One DFW Tour de Cure Red Rider said that, “hearing ‘Go Red Rider!’ was a thrill that kept my feet moving,” which is what was the feeling shared by ALL Red Riders that day!
With someone in this country being diagnosed with diabetes every 20 seconds, the American Diabetes Association relies on the dollars raised through Tour de Cure to support its mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. Every dollar helps us provide community-based education programs, protect the rights of people with diabetes and fund critical research toward a cure.
The American Diabetes Association is the largest non-government funder of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes research. Each year, the ADA invests millions of dollars in diabetes research throughout the nation, resulting in advances in diabetes treatment and prevention. We are currently funding over $33.5 million in diabetes research projects; over $2.6 million of which is invested at institutions right here in North Texas.
We have accomplished much, but as the number of Americans diagnosed with diabetes continues to rise, our mission becomes even more critical. Every dollar you raise and every mile you ride helps the American Diabetes Association in the effort to Stop Diabetes. Join us now to help find a cure for this disease so we can reverse the trend and protect not only ourselves, but the ones we love.
